Elena is talking to Kim, her colleague at a preschool:
Kim, you have been teaching here longer than I have, so maybe you can help me. I want to talk to you about the new preschool teacher they hired. I've talked with her a couple of times about how she implements the state pre-K standards, and she says she isn't too worried about them. I offered to help her with her lesson plans, but she told me she plans as she goes along. She said she knows what to do and developing a written plan gets in the way of her doing what comes naturally for her and the children. She also told me she thinks that the emphasis on early literacy is just a lot of hype—a passing fad. I'm concerned that her children won't be ready for kindergarten.
