The Center for the Study of Testing, Evaluation, and Educational Policy (CSTEEP) is an educational
research organization located at Boston College in the School of Education. Since its inception in
1980, CSTEEP has conducted research on testing, evaluation, and public policy; studies to improve
school assessment practices; and international comparative research. CSTEEP conducts its work on
both small and large scales, working with individual schools, districts, and states, as well as
countries, to advance educational testing practices and policies, and to improve the quality and
fairness of education.

The Buros Institute of Mental Measurements provides professional assistance, expertise, and
information to users of commercially published tests, and promotes meaningful and appropriate test
selection, utilization, and practice. The Buros Institute encourages improved test development and
measurement research through thoughtful, critical analysis of measurement instruments and the
promotion of an open dialogue regarding contemporary measurement issues. The Institute publishes the
Mental Measurements Yearbook and Tests in Print series, presents the Buros-Nebraska Symposium on

ERIC® Clearinghouse on Assessment and Evaluation
The ERIC® Clearinghouse on Assessment and Evaluation was recently closed by the U.S. Department of Education. However, many of the
resources are still available at other locations online. The ERIC Clearinghouse sought to provide
balanced information concerning educational assessment and resources to encourage responsible test

Collection includes an extensive library of 20,000 tests and other measurement devices from the
early 1900s to the present. The collection is the largest in the world. It was established to make
information on standardized tests and research instruments available to researchers, graduate
students, and teachers. The tests contained in this collection were acquired from a variety of U.S.
publishers and individual test authors. Foreign tests are also included in the collection, including
some from Canada, Great Britain, and Australia.
- Practical Assessment, Research and Evaluation (PARE) Online: (http://pareonline.net/) PARE provides education professionals access to
refereed articles that can have a positive impact on assessment, research, evaluation, and teaching
practice, especially at the local education agency (LEA) level.

abstracts and Digests produced by the ERICSM system; Assessment and Evaluation on the Internet, an index offered by the ERIC Clearinghouse on Assessment & Evaluation of sources pertaining to
educational and psychological testing.
National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME)

The National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) is a professional organization of about
2,300 members. Many members are involved in either the construction and uses of educational tests or
the development and evaluation of measurement models and methods. NCME members are committed to the
continual improvement of testing and measurement practices in education. This site contains

It is the purpose of National Education Goals Panel to establish a bipartisan mechanism for (1)
building a national consensus for education improvement; (2) reporting on progress toward achieving
the National Education Goals; and (3) reviewing the voluntary national content standards, voluntary
national student performance standards and voluntary national opportunity-to-learn standards
certified by the National Education Standards and Improvement Council, as well as the criteria for
the certification of such standards, and the criteria for the certification of state assessments
certified by the National Education Standards and Improvement Council, with the option of
disapproving such standards and criteria not later than 90 days after receipt from such Council.
