Instructing Critical Readers Using a Common Text
Teaching Case
|
Fabiola was excited at her student teaching placement. She would be teaching middle level language arts at a school that emphasized the teaching of reading strategies. Fabiola contacted her cooperating teacher to discuss the texts that they would be using during her time there. The teacher explained that she typically used a combination of literature anthologies and novels and that during Fabiola's placement she would be teaching novels. She then said, "Fabiola, why don't you select a novel to teach. We have some money to purchase paperback copies for every student. I'll just let you have three weeks to teach whatever you want."
