Teaching Case

When Amanda was given her student teaching placement, she was ecstatic. She was going to student teach in her hometown with Ms. Landon, who taught fourth grade. During a school break, Amanda met with the Ms. Landon to talk about her student teaching semester. Ms. Landon told Amanda everything she could think of about the needs of her classroom. One of the things that concerned this seasoned teacher was that the students didn't seem motivated to read.

Ms. Landon's concern surprised Amanda. Amanda knew that Ms. Landon used a variety of motivational techniques. The students could read books for pizza rewards; they listed each book read on a class chart; and they gave book reports. Ms. Landon asked Amanda to help her encourage the students to love reading.
