Developing Your Knowledge about Interpretive Readers
Interest Inventories

Each student has very different interests. Students bring their individual interests to reading situations as part of the transaction that occurs during reading. Often teachers ask their students to complete an interest inventory to determine students' interests.

Administer a copy of an Interest Inventory to a student in the intermediate grades. Bring your results to class and discuss the differences among the students you have interviewed. Use the following questions to guide your discussion.
