Arranging Your Classroom

Your task for this You Try It is to draw a diagram of an early elementary classroom floor plan that you believe would allow you to be an effective teacher of Early Readers. Your drawing will resemble those that interior designers create showing furniture placement for homeowners. Think about how your classroom arrangement reflects your philosophy of learning. Bring your diagram to class for sharing with your peers.

Some factors to consider:

  • Furniture placement
  • Traffic flow
  • Comfort
  • Use of wall space
  • Organization of materials
  • Storage
  • Areas for centers
  • Reading spaces
  • Decorative accents that affect the environment
  • Your desk placement
