Research

Much has been written about the importance of children's play and how adults can help facilitate this important activity. This exploration is designed to give you more information about the importance of play and introduce methods of getting children involved at home and at school.

  1. Observe how a High Scope preschool program encourages play within their curriculum. Go to MyEducationLab and select the topic "Curriculum/Program Models" and view the video "High/Scope."
  2. Analyze a lesson plan and brainstorm how it could be adapted for students in the primary grades. Go to MyEducationLab, select the topic "Math and Science," and examine the "Playing Store" lesson plan.
  3. Read an article that explores research about play in early childhood programs, and how teachers can best support play in their classrooms. Go to MyEducationLab, select the topic "Play" and read the article "The Importance of Being Playful."
