Collaboration Exercise

In groups of three or four, choose a technical term relevant to the group’s interests, and trace its history from the first noted usage of the word to the present. In particular, your group should write a short document (chosen by the instructor) that explains how the term has been defined and used throughout its history. Discuss the term using the types of definitions reviewed in chapter 14. Be sure to keep track of all the sources you use to research this term. While you might begin with a dictionary (such as the Oxford English Dictionary) or with an encyclopedia, try to locate other sources that will help you understand the history of the term and how its definitions have changed and been used differently over time. If you have difficulty deciding upon a term, use “turbo,” “digital,” or “electronic.”
