Health Promotion in the Homeless

Gwen Smith is admitted to your unit from the local mental health crisis unit. The patient is a schizophrenic patient who is homeless. She has a master’s degree in special education. She has been using cocaine to self medicate for a week. She admits to having difficulty taking her prescribed medicines correctly. She has been estranged from her family for years. Gwen clearly states that she wants the voices to stop and then she wants to be released back unto the city streets. Gwen is on disability related to her mental illness and receives a small monthly government check.
