Topic 8: Assessment in Early Childhood Education
For the Teacher/ Practitioner

Many parents have a baby book for each of their children which contains dates of major accomplishments—birth, doctor’s visits, first tooth, first words, rolling over, crawling, etc. As a teacher you might want to continue that baby book by documenting the student’s accomplishments in a student portfolio. Visit some sites to see what might be in an early childhood student’s portfolio? Can you develop a table of contents for what you think might make a good sample of their work?
