Introduction

Broadly defined, early childhood education is any educational experience that children ages birth through 8 years of age experience. Those experiences happen in families, in family day care homes, child care centers and preschools, and in public and private K-12 schools. In this topic you will find information about the history of early childhood education, influential people of the past and present, the importance and effectiveness of appropriate early childhood education, and current critical issues that influence today’s experiences for young children, their families and teachers.
