Unit 1

When you have completed this unit, you will be able to do the following:

  • Match vocabulary words with their correct meanings.
  • List seven cell functions.
  • Identify three main parts of the cell and explain their functions.
  • Describe the relationship between cells, tissues, organs, and systems of the body.
  • Identify terms relating to the body.
  • Label a diagram of the body cavities.
  • Explain why health care workers must have a basic knowledge of body structures and how they function.

Unit 2

When you have completed this unit, you will be able to do the following:

  • Match vocabulary words with their correct meanings.
  • Label a diagram of major bones in the body.
  • Select from a list the functions of bones.
  • Name the long, short, flat, and irregular bones of the body.
  • Identify immovable, slightly movable, and freely movable joints of the body.
  • Identify common disorders of the skeletal system.
  • Label a diagram of four types of bone fractures.
  • Explain why a health care worker must have a basic knowledge of the skeletal system and how it functions.

When you have completed this unit, you will be able to do the following:

  • Explain the difference between muscle and bone functions.
  • List three major functions of the muscles.
  • Match common disorders of the muscular system with their descriptions.
  • Match basic muscle movements to their correct names.

Unit 4

When you have completed this unit, you will be able to do the following:

  • Name the major organs of the circulatory system.

  • Recognize functions of the circulatory system.
  • Identify the common disorders of the circulatory system.
  • List the parts of the circulatory system through which blood flows.

When you have completed this unit, you will be able to do the following:
