Case Study

Lee Wu is a young adult college student finishing his Ph.D. in Chemistry. He is doing well in school until he begins to exhibit symptoms of psychoses. He is hospitalized and diagnosed with schizophrenia. The psychiatrist prescribes chlorpromazine (Thorazine). The nurse notices that Lee is beginning to pace and seems unable to rest or relax. He complains his neck is stiff and his mouth is dry. The nurse notices he is at the drinking fountain every 10-15 minutes.
