Activité : Invitation

This activity contains 4 questions.

How would you invite somebody to do something in French? Make a list in French of the various ways you could extend an invitation.

Imagine that you want to extend an invitation to one of your classmates. What might the occasion be, and what would you like to invite him/her to do? Write down the occasion and list the activities that you would like to propose in French.

Think about and list the other details of your invitation in French. Write down when and where the activities you propose will take place. If you are to meet somewhere, what is the meeting place and time? When must you have a response to your invitation?

Next, go to this site http://fr.greetings.yahoo.com/browse/Evenements_speciaux/Invitations/ to create your own invitation. Make sure you choose a card appropriate for your invitation. If you do not find a card that suits your invitation on the first page, click on « Cartes suivantes » to see a broader selection. Click on the card of your choice and follow these instructions:
a. Pick the format of your card.
b. Type the name of the person you are inviting in the first box.
c. Type in his/her e-mail address and your instructor’s e-mail address so s/he can receive a copy too.
d. Type in your name and your e-mail address in the box below.
e. You are ready to write your message! Use the notes you have taken for questions 1, 2 and 3 to write your personal invitation in a brief, well-organized paragraph in French. Once you have created your invitation, see what your finished card will look like by clicking on « Visualisez votre carte ». If you need to make corrections, click on « Faire d'autres changements ». If your card is ready to be sent, click on « Envoyer cette carte ».

5. Imagine that you have received an invitation from one of your classmates; write a short paragraph, in French, to answer him/her.
