1 .		In 1977, the flight of the little airplane the Gossamer Condor, did not look very impressive but it was indeed a historic flight. With wings of foam balsa wood and Mylar, the plane designed by Paul MacCready floated slowly and gracefully over California's San Joaquin Valley, and covered about two kilometres in about eight minutes. What made it so historic, was that the pilot was pedalling. The Gossamer Condor was only the first of MacCready’s pedal-powered planes and two years later the plane’s successor, the Gossamer Albatross, crossed the English Channel. Some people say that MacCready is really the brains, behind these inventions but others feel that he receives undue credit for the work that others on the development teams do. However MacCready was the first to use his observations, of how birds fly so his supporters feel that his, is the genius, who made human-powered, flight possible. 2 .		The skirmish took place on October 7 1945 when the enemy tanks moved from their position and moved toward the Allied army. The troops not surprisingly were tired and hungry. Anyone who saw them knew that they were not fit to do battle but they bravely pushed forward to the front. One soldier weary from the cold shivered as he trudged through the cold night air.
