Black slideA slide that displays at the end of the slide show to indicate that the presentation is over.

Bullet pointAn individual line of bulleted text on a slide.

Clip artA set of images, drawings, photographs, videos, and sound included with Microsoft Office or accessed from Microsoft Office Online.

Contextual toolTools used to perform specific commands related to the selected object.

FontA set of characters with the same design and shape.

Footer (PowerPoint) Text that displays at the bottom of every slide or that prints at the bottom of a sheet of slide handouts.

Header (PowerPoint)Text that prints at the top of each sheet of slide handouts.

L

LayoutThe arrangement of the text and graphic elements or placeholders on a slide.

Layout galleryA visual representation of several content layouts that you can apply to a slide.

List levelLevels of text on a slide identified by the indentation, size of text, and bullet assigned to that level.

Normal viewThe PowerPoint view in which the window is divided into three areas—the Slide pane, the pane containing the Slides and Outline tabs, and the Notes pane.

Notes PageA printout that contains the slide image in the top half of the page and speaker notes typed in the Notes pane in the lower half of the page.

Notes paneAn area of the Normal View window used to type notes that can be printed below a picture of each slide.

P

PictureAn image created with a scanner, digital camera, or graphics software that has been saved with a graphic file extension such as .jpg, .tif, or .bmp.

Picture StyleA prebuilt set of formatting borders, effects, and layouts applied to a picture.

PlaceholderA box with dotted borders that is part of most slide layouts and that holds text or objects such as charts, tables, and pictures.

PointMeasurement of the size of a font; each point is 1/72 of an inch.

Sizing handleA small square or circle at the corner or side of a selected object that is dragged to increase or decrease the size of the object.

SlideAn individual page in a presentation that can contain text, pictures, tables, charts, and other multimedia or graphic objects.

Slide handoutPrinted images of more than one slide on a sheet of paper.

Slide Sorter viewThe PowerPoint view in which all of the slides in the presentation display as thumbnails.

Slide transitionA motion effect that occurs in Slide Show view when you move from one slide to the next during a presentation.

SynonymA word with the same meaning.

Text alignmentThe horizontal placement of text within a placeholder.

ThesaurusA research tool that lists words that have the same or similar meaning to the word you are looking up.

ThumbnailA miniature image of a presentation slide.
