Web Project 1: Different Types of Networks

Chapter 7 focused primarily on networking and described various types of networks, such as client/server networks, peer-to-peer networks, and wired and wireless Ethernet networks. Assume you are newly employed by a small business (50 employees) that uses Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.

For this Web project, search the Internet to find more information on each of these types of networks and obtain answers to the following questions:

What are the pros and cons of the different types?
Which network provides the highest data transfer rate?
What cost factors need to be considered?

Based on your research, prepare a proposal for your new boss that discusses what you learned about networks, how one could help his or her business, which type of network you would recommend, and why.

We know from this chapter that a hacker is anyone who unlawfully breaks into a computer system—whether an individual computer or a network. However, there is a great deal of dissension (especially among hackers themselves) as to what a hacker actually is. Using the Internet, research four different types of hackers, and define each one. As part of your research, seek information about the typical profile of a hacker. Why do hackers do what they do? What are the laws against hacking in your state? How easy is it to catch a hacker?
