Web Project 1: Women in IT

As you read in the chapter, many women choose not to pursue a career in IT. Some view IT departments as groups of antisocial geeks and do not feel they would fit in. In the 1980s, the number of women entering the field was increasing, but there has since been a big decline. In fact, we know that there are fewer women working in IT today than there were in 2000.

Using the Internet, research approximately how many women worked in IT in the year 2000 and compare that with how many are working in IT today. Why were there more women in the profession in the past than there are now? Why the decline? What is being done to increase the number of women in the field? What motivation is there for women to work in the field? Write a brief paper with your findings.
