MySpace: www.myspace.com. A popular social networking site, MySpace enables members to create their own online community. Members can invite friends to join their personal network, share photos, create journals, and check out their friends’ friends.
GHSA: Governor’s Highway Safety Association: www.ghsa.org. The GHSA is a nonprofit organization representing the viewpoints of the states and territories, while working with Congress and federal agencies to help develop effective highway safety programs.
Google SMS: www.google.com/sms. This service, which is currently under development, allows you to use your cell phone’s SMS service to send a text message query to Google and get the search results texted back to you.
Smarter: www.smarter.com/sms. This service allows the user to submit specific information, such as an item name or model number, about a product for price comparison purposes. The site will return information about the lowest price available online.
4INFO Mobile Search: www.4info.net. Similar to Google’s SMS service, this site provides basic alert services and free searching within a variety of categories.
Upoc: www.upoc.com. This site combines the power of social networking sites with the convenience of text messaging, to create a uniquely mobile community.
411 SMS: www.411sms.com. Get 411 information, movie listings, directions, and other information for free via text messaging on your cell phone.
SoonR: www.soonr.com. The SoonR service, currently in development, allows users to access their computer files and applications, e-mail accounts, and VoIP service via their cell phone. SoonR has a free basic program and a premium service, either of which can be downloaded to a desktop computer, which will then be accessible by cell phone.
Avvenu: www.avvenu.com. Visitors to this site can download the Avvenu basic software at no charge, then use it to access their home or office computer by using their cell phone. Fuller-featured versions of the software can also be downloaded for a fee.
MP3.com: www.mp3.com. Originally a music hosting service for independent artists, MP3.com is now an online music guide, providing audio samples, information, and news about all types of music genres.
Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net. This open-source software application allows users to record and edit audio files. Visitors can download the software for free and join in the forums or check the FAQs for more information.
iPodder: indiePodder.org: www.ipodder.org. Home of iPodder software, a small program used to download audio files to MP3 devices, this site offers a decentralized, categorized directory of links to podcast feeds. Because the directory consists solely of links, there are no descriptions, samples, or ratings to be found here.
iPodSync: www.ipod-sync.com. iPod owners who want to include their Outlook e-mail, calendar, and contact information on their iPod can do so using the iPodSync software. Site visitors can download a free trial version or purchase it.
KOYONO: www.koyono.com. Mobile device users who want to keep their devices close to hand will be interested in this clothing site. The clothing and accessories on the site have been developed to integrate seamlessly with various mobile devices.
TuneBuckle: www.tunebuckle.com. The TuneBuckle keeps an iPod safe while conveniently doing double-duty as a belt buckle. Site visitors have a choice of several belt styles and colors.
Wired News: www.wired.com. Wired News is the online site for Wired magazine. Covering a range of topics from technology to blogs to politics, visitors will find plenty of current information. Pick the link for Wired Mag and check out the Gadget Lab, Wired’s weekly product review newsletter, to see what they’ve reviewed lately or use the Search feature to locate specific items of interest.
AvantGo: www.avantgo.com. The AvantGo site makes it possible to send mobile versions of Web sites from a home computer to a PDA or mobile device. Users must sign up to access this free service, choose the content they wish to sync with their mobile device, then download the necessary software.
CNN.com: www.cnn.com. This popular news site is one example of the type of content AvantGo can send to mobile devices. CNN’s own CNNtoGO feature is another alternative providing content for mobile devices.
Rolling Stone: www.rollingstone.com. AvantGo users can select this Web site for Rolling Stone magazine and have it sent to their mobile devices. The Rolling Stone site provides music and entertainment industry news and reviews, photos and music videos, artist information, and online communities, as well as the opportunity to subscribe to Rolling Stone magazine.
PDAStreet: www.pdastreet.com. Visitors to this site can download software created especially for PDAs, check out news and reviews on the latest products and software, participate in user forums, and obtain tips for using their handheld devices.
Download.com: www.download.com. The Download.com site provides a vast array of freeware and shareware software titles available for download and reviews many of these products, too. Check out the Mobile section under software to browse for titles suitable for PDAs and other mobile devices.
Tucows: www.tucows.com. This is a popular site for downloading software, especially shareware and freeware.
Colligo Networks Inc.: www.colligo.com. A variety of collaboration software is available on this site, giving mobile device users a way to network and share information with one another while away from their home or office network.
