With the cost of DVD burners coming down, they are starting to replace the CD burner as the choice method of archiving information. A DVD can store 4.7GB of data including computer files, audio files or motion picture files. Like CD burners, DVD burner can either attached as external units or mounted internally into a PC. DVD-ROMs come in the following flavors:

  • DVD-R - Write information once, read many times
  • DVD-RW - Write and re-write information many times, read many times.

Zip drives are great for transferring files that are too large for a floppy but not large enough to fill a CD. They are essentially a super-size floppy that can store 100MB, 250MB, or 750MB on a single cartridge.
